The Obama administration still seems to be fighting an uphill battle on how to handle the housing crisis. The latest strategy means good news for foreclosure cleaning businesses. Why?

Because in the President’s recent speech on jobs creation, part of the proposal to get Americans back to work will kill two birds with one stone, ie: (i) create jobs; and (ii) renovate/rehab the glut of foreclosed properties on the market.

According to the Wall Street Journal article, Obama Program Calls for $15B for Foreclosure Rehab:

. . . the president’s job-creation bill actually includes some aid for housing: It would create a $15 billion fund to get construction workers to rehab vacant and foreclosed homes and businesses. Construction hiring has been weak, of course, because competition from foreclosures has held new home building at abysmally low levels.

Dubbed “Project Rebuild,” the White House initiative follows on the work of the administration’s Neighborhood Stabilization Plan, which gave grants to nonprofits in communities hard hit by foreclosures.

Foreclosure Cleaning Business Owners — What You Need to Capitalize on This Work

This means more work coming down the pike in the form of city contracts for everything from painting, to landscaping, to debris removal and trashout outs, to lite construction (eg, replacing doors and windows, cabinetry, changing locks, etc.).

According to the Kansas City Star article, Utilities feel pinched by growing home foreclosures:

A growing number of vacant, foreclosed homes are using little or no electricity. . . . Utilities have already been crimped by the housing slowdown because of fewer new homes being built. . . . Across the country, . . . there is general acknowledgement that foreclosures are playing a role [in reduced utility usage and profits].

One thing remains the same though — electric rates for consumers are not going down, in spite of many doing things to conserve energy (eg, switching to natural gas, instead of electric, heat).

Another blow to the pocket book of the average Joe homeowner. You do everything right, but still get screwed.

As the h0me foreclosure crisis rages on and numbers come out every day saying foreclosures are decreasing, some experts are candidly admitting that there may be some “fuzzy math,”  to quote former president Bush, going on.

One accounting exec responding to the latest round of foreclosure statistics for the metro Atlanta (Georgia) area commented:

“I’m honestly not sure the number of advertised foreclosures has anything to do with the real number of defaults,” Bramlett [head of an a numbers crunching firm in Kennesaw, GA] said.

Banks may be holding off on foreclosures for several reasons. Many big lenders are still working their way through legal problems created by the “robo-signing” crisis, where mortgage documentation was incomplete, inaccurate or forged.

This may be the most solid insight into how deep the housing crisis is than any “hard and fast numbers.” With an economy still on very shaky ground, jobs still hard to come by and unemployment benefits being exhausted (along with savings), many Americans are finding it hard to make their mortgage payments.

Either way, the time to start making some decisions is now — not later.

The threat of losing your home is stressful enough to make you ill [because] There is a connection between people’s economic well being and their physical well being. . . . While the most common ailments are respiratory problems and pneumonia, . . . an increase in psychosomatic disorders, such as patients with chest pain and shortness of breath, and others who feel suicidal.

Yet another blow to the Average Joe Homeowner.
